Continuous Casting Roll Traceability and RFID Tracking System

TRACKROLL-ID® enables full traceability of continuous casting rolls using RFID technology, providing lifecycle monitoring, maintenance optimization and operational performance improvement in steel plants.

Continuous Casting Process

Continuous casting is a key steelmaking process used to produce slabs, billets and blooms. A typical casting machine contains between 9 and 15 segments and more than 1000 rolls guiding the strand until full solidification.

RFID Roll Tracking System for Continuous Casting

TRACKROLL-ID® is an advanced RFID-based roll tracking system designed for continuous casting machines in steel plants. By integrating RFID tags directly into casting rolls, the system enables full identification, tracking and lifecycle management of each roll across production, maintenance and refurbishment operations.

This roll tracking system provides steel producers with real-time visibility on roll condition, usage history and maintenance cycles, enabling predictive maintenance strategies, improved reliability and optimized industrial performance.

Severe Operating Conditions

During casting operations, hot steel slabs pass between rolls under extreme thermal and mechanical conditions.

Challenges of Roll Management

Casting rolls operate under severe industrial constraints and must be regularly inspected, refurbished and replaced. Managing large roll fleets without proper traceability leads to loss of visibility, inefficient maintenance and increased operational costs.

Traditional Roll Traceability

In many steel plants, roll traceability is still based on manual documentation or paper records, making lifecycle tracking unreliable and difficult to exploit for performance optimization.
